The Deal with Clean Beauty

The Deal with Clean Beauty

The buzz around clean beauty is all but quiet. Aside from the health aspect, it’s also nice to have a growing list of more sustainable options, since most clean beauty brands also offer more sustainable packaging as well. Finding brands (clean or not) that use more environmentally friendly packaging, I’ve found, can quickly become a fun game that also helps our planet. While it’s always comforting to know products are safe and ethically curated what are some of the factors to consider when selecting the right items for your routine specifically? Here are a few things you may like to consider when buying clean.

Performance

Because clean beauty is formulated differently you may find that the performance is different as well. Not in a compromising kind of way just in the sense that some products might perform better with a slight adjustment to your typical routine. Particularly in the areas of setting and product pairing. With certain types of ingredients and dyes absent from clean beauty, it can be even more essential to put new makeup through a wear test.

Lifespan of Clean Beauty

Because clean beauty is formulated with fewer chemicals, sometimes that may include chemicals that help with preservation. Good for skin, bad for options. Part of the luxury element of building a makeup collection is having a variety to pick from, this might be something to keep in mind. Without preservatives that keep products from expiring too quickly the timespan to use them can be shorter than what you’re used to with traditional products.

Clean Beauty

Natural vs Clean

Keep in mind that natural products are not always clean and clean products are not always natural. Many clean beauty brands opt for the elimination of potentially harmful ingredients. This often leads to more healthy and ethically sourced ingredients which often leads to the incorporation of more naturally occurring ingredients. But if all-natural is important to you, just remember this isn’t always the case so it doesn’t hurt to double-check. Also, if you have sensitive skin and haven’t used a lot of either type of product it’s best to test first. For allergy purposes, as well as, natural ingredients can take some time to get skin acclimated to.

Knowing toxic ingredients are left behind when it comes to makeup, brings so much peace. I didn’t get super technical, diving into specific toxic ingredients or proven research because the point here isn’t to create stress. Just a friendly reminder to stay updated and educated when it comes to anything you put into contact with your skin. Just little extra patience with discovering clean beauty and attention to selection and buying clean might just become your new favorite.
