CBD Skincare: the hype and why it’s in skincare
The three little letters you’ve probably seen pop up in more places than ever lately. And now skincare? Of all places? At least that was my first thought and was interested as to the reason for it showing up in ingredient lists. Turns out CBD acts much like any other vitamin or nutrient would for your skin. Complete with its own unique skin perks CBD skincare might be more than just a trend.
Forms and Properties
The form of CBD you’ll find in skincare is CBD oil, an extract from the hemp plant, not to be confused with the marijuana plant. So for those wondering… no, any type of CBD usage won’t take you for a quick trip to outer space if you know what I mean lol. Within skincare, CBD continues to be researched for an array of health benefits. However, at the moment the most agreed upon benefits include the presence of healthy doses of Vitamin A, D, and E, active anti-inflammatory properties, and the ability to serve as a free radicals protectant.
Benefits of CBD Skincare
So where can CBD make sense in a skincare routine? Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, it has the potential to help with breakouts. One of the main reasons acne can be difficult to get rid of, once formed, is because in order for it to absorb any type of treatment it first needs to be less irritated and inflamed to accept nourishing ingredients. Another CBD benefit is the defense it provides against free radicals. A fancy way of referring to not-so-stable molecules in our environment, that play games with our skin’s collagen production, and not the nice kind.
The combination of fighting breakouts as well as tending to anti-aging needs definitely creates appeal. On top of this, being that CBD is new to the scene it’s exciting that there will likely be more research and development in the near future as far as incorporating it into the skincare space.
