All Day Stay Makeup Techniques
As trends shift and your makeup routine changes, it can be helpful to consider new application techniques that allow products to perform their best. Getting your makeup to last all day (or night) sometimes isn’t always about what you’re using but how and when you chose to apply it. Let’s get into some unlikely makeup techniques that leave you free from touching up. Beginning with everyone’s “favorite” .. under eyes.
Under eyes
Under eyes can be one of the most tricky areas to touch up so.. you’ll hate me for saying this but it’s best to.. set it and forget it. Don’t care it was necessary lol. Typically once makeup goes on in this area it is the best it’s going to look, so application technique matters. For natural looks that don’t involve heavy powder or foundation, concealers that have a light, more fluid consistency work well. Ones with hyaluronic acid or designed specifically as a touchup concealer sit on bare skin the best and usually don’t require much of a set. Cult faves that are recognized for their high coverage usually don’t work for these looks. This is because the coverage doesn’t allow for a seamless blend between where bare skin and concealed skin meet.
Powder Application
Speaking of full coverage. Really want to make sure your makeup is budge-proof, sweat-proof, everything-proof? This is the most simple, yet my most favored trick. If you have a baking technique you’re comfortable with, switch out your normal blending sponge with a microfiber sponge. I never noticed much of a difference between the two when it came to foundation application but then I tried it will powder… that opinion quickly changed. Something about how the product gets worked into the skin allows the bake to create a smoother, even more locked-in, version of the typical baked look that you’re used to.
Lip Color
This technique can be used for both full coverage and natural looks. Where classic lipstick formulations can tend to move and shift throughout the day, this technique is not only long-lasting but when it does begin to wear off it allows color to fade effortlessly. Take your favorite lip liner, pencil for a more defined look, crayon for a more natural look, outline your lips plus add a bit to the center and outer edges. Next, may come as a bit of a surprise. Lip balm! The more treatment and hydration focused the better. Nothing pretty or glossy, just clear and hydrating. Layer that over the liner and blend where needed. Not only will you love the way this performs but when you’re ready for a reapplication there’s no dry skin or separation of color to deal with, your lips are already hydrated and ready.
Next time, specific products that make the perfect duo for long-lasting wear. Hope these techniques are helpful.
