Matcha Health Perks and at home prep tips

On a matcha kick like me? Despite it being a tea its actually requires a little bit more care when preparing an at-home version. Plus! Ever wonder if reaching for matcha is really healthier than coffee? Let’s get into it.

Matcha

Perks

Pure matcha vs. black coffee does have a few additional health benefits. One is that it contains antioxidants. Two studies have shown it can positively impact brain function. Another is it contains L-Theanine which enhances the effects of the caffeine that naturally occurs in green tea. This is what gives you that steady stream of energy vs. a rush of energy followed by a crash.

Quality

If you enjoy the latte version of matcha you might like the premixed versions that you can find at the store. These often contain coconut, or milk, plus a sweeter followed by matcha powder. This leaves very little to mix in once combine with water. If you prefer a more simplistic variation you may enjoy ceremonial grade matcha, which is the purest form of the tea you can find. This also may be the best option if you prefer to incorporate your own add-ins.

Prep

Prepping a hot version of matcha just requires adding a small amount of hot water and/or milk to your matcha mix and once blended add the rest of your water or milk. Prefer an iced version? It’s exactly the same just except when you add the rest of the milk or water make sure it’s chilled or combine with ice. Also, the best way to get that perfect, almost barista blend is to use a bamboo matcha whisk when combining or even tossing the drink in a blender. I like the blend option or using a milk frother because it’s fast and creates a little bit of foam. Yum.

Thinking a matcha variations post might be up soon! Hope these tips helped so matcha! No? I had to, ok lol. Till next time!
